Coffee is the main cash crop in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.

Local farmers in Enga Province grow coffee, which was introduced by European Missionaries in 1942 as part of their livelihood improvement plan. Initially, the crop was planted as a gesture of appreciation towards the missionaries, and early farmers were persuaded to transport coffee with gifts such as salt and soap. The cultivation of coffee increased as a demonstration of obedience to the missionaries, and later on, the economic benefits of coffee were realized, leading to its continued cultivation.

Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd proudly sources its premium coffee from the highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea, an area famed for its optimal coffee-growing conditions due to rich volcanic soil, cool climate, and high altitude. Introduced in the 1950s, coffee quickly became a cornerstone of the local economy. The industry is driven predominantly by smallholder farmers who manage family-owned plots, employing sustainable and organic farming methods that enhance both environmental health and coffee quality. These farmers rely on traditional techniques, as they often have limited access to chemical inputs, ensuring that the coffee is organically grown. Coffee farming is crucial for these households, providing income for essential services such as education and healthcare. However, challenges such as fluctuating market prices, lack of modern equipment, and difficult terrain persist. In response, many farmers have formed cooperatives to pool resources and share knowledge, improving their market position and productivity. Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd supports these smallholders by providing fair market access, promoting community development initiatives, and investing in infrastructure and educational programs. This commitment not only sustains the local coffee industry but also fosters economic development and social well-being in Enga Province. The company’s dedication to quality and sustainability ensures that customers worldwide enjoy exceptional coffee, supporting the livelihoods of the farmers who produce it. Each cup from Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd embodies a story of tradition, dedication, and community, from the lush highlands of Papua New Guinea to coffee lovers around the globe.

Our Coffee

At Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd, we take pride in exporting the finest Arabica coffee. Our coffee is grown in the cool mountains and sunny valleys of Enga, an area perfect for growing different types of Arabica beans. This special environment gives our organic coffee a unique and delicious taste.

We are the first to export pure Enga Arabica Beans, allowing coffee lovers to enjoy the true, unblended flavor of Enga Province. Over the years, Enga coffee has been blended with other PNG varieties, but now you can experience the pure, fruity flavors that make our coffee special.

Our pure Arabica beans include three famous types:

  • Blue Mountain (Typica)

  • Bourbon

  • Arusha

Our coffee is truly organic. The beans are picked from the tree, pulped, washed, sun-dried, and sold within a week, ensuring they are always fresh and never stored for long periods.

We implement certification programs from Sucafina Niugini and work with the Coffee Industry Corporation to meet high industry standards. Our goal is to provide the best quality green bean coffee for export.

A testament to our dedication to quality, our A grade coffee won international awards at the Golden Bean Coffee Roasters competition in 2020 in Melbourne, Australia. We secured a Gold medal in the Pour Over category, a Silver in the Single Origin Espresso category, and a Bronze in the Milk-Based category. This achievement reflects our dedication to producing high-quality coffee and our meticulous processing methods.

We currently export to Australia and Europe, sharing the exceptional taste of Enga with the world.
