Our Story
Passion for Coffee & Community
At Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd, our journey began with a deep-rooted commitment to helping local smallholder farmers.
For over 20 years, we have dedicated ourselves to uplifting our community and producing the finest Arabica coffee.

Our story starts in 2002 when our founder, Patrick Komba, began his small-scale business as a coffee buyer, sourcing parchment coffee from local smallholder farmers and selling it to exporters in Mt Hagen. In 2006, with financial assistance from the Enga Provincial Government, Patrick established the Wapenamanda Coffee Factory. The mill allowed us to process parchment coffee into green bean coffee, which we then sold to major roasters and exporters in Goroka and Hagen.

In 2016, a significant milestone was achieved when the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) issued us an export license, enabling us to export under the name Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd. Beyond growing the business, Patrick Komba served as Chairman of the CIC board from 2017 to 2022, demonstrating his dedication to the coffee industry and its development.

About us
What we do?
At Wapenamanda Coffee Exports Ltd, we are dedicated to empowering farmers and enhancing the quality of our coffee. One of the main challenges faced in the rural parts of Papua New Guinea is the poor to nonexistent road infrastructure, making it difficult for farmers to transport their coffee to market. To address this, we bring the market to their doorstep, ensuring they receive fair market prices without the burden of transportation.
We actively engage in programs to improve coffee quality through initiatives such as coffee rehabilitation with Sucafina Niugini and the Productive Partnerships in Agriculture Project (PPAP). These programs provide farmers with essential coffee seedlings, tools, and training in best agricultural practices. By profiling farmers and offering comprehensive training, we ensure they adopt the most effective techniques from seedling to harvest.
We believe the journey to exceptional coffee begins with high-quality seedlings and continues through each meticulous step of the process—picking cherries, pulping and washing, sun-drying, processing, and finally roasting the beans. Each stage is crucial to the quality of the coffee, and we are committed to enhancing every step with utmost care and precision.
A testament to our dedication to quality, our A grade coffee won international awards at the Golden Bean Coffee Roasters competition in 2020 in Melbourne, Australia. We secured a Gold medal in the Pour Over category, a Silver in the Single Origin Espresso category, and a Bronze in the Milk-Based category. This achievement reflects our dedication to producing high-quality coffee and our meticulous processing methods.
Through our efforts, we strive to bring out the best in Enga's coffee, fostering sustainability and prosperity for our farmers and delivering unparalleled coffee to the world.

"My time with the PNG CIC Board has given Enga the opportunity to be part of the PNG coffee industry developments as a coffee-growing province. We have brought in coffee projects into the province."
-Patrick Komba
